Your Web Site Workshop

Welcome to the Public Web Workshop.

You are entering a live online web design center, where you can actually see web sites come together out of thin air (or shall we say a blank page?).

This section of the TennTimes web site is composed of two parts:

(a) a Public Web Workshop where you will find useful tips and examples, and
(b) your own private workshop where your particular website is being birthed.

If you have a private workshop, you will receive a private link to your workshop. If you can't find it or haven't received it, please e-mail me.

This Public Web Workshop is itself under construction, with new features being added. It came about as the result of a need to collect in one place the most vital information my clients needed as we worked together to build their site.

Rather than duplicate the same material over and over in various private workshops, I am now collecting them here so

(a) less space is used up on my host server and
(b) the material is available to anyone who visits - whether they are a client or not.

The Public Web Workshop is meant to be functional - not artsy, so don't expect any bells and whistles other than a few examples, for demonstration purposes, of the various techniques used or available.

WHAT WE OFFER

Domain Name registration

$20/year. We register your domain name, if available, and handle all the paperwork. YOU are the owner of the domain.

Web Hosting Service

We offer several hosting packages, depending on your particular needs. Prices range from $75/ year to $150/year. Hosting is provided through third parties. If you obtain your hosting through us, we handle all the registration and file transfer. If not, we charge $50 for file transfer.

Web Site Design and Maintenance

We offer site design ranging from simple to complex, depending on what serves your needs best. We design our sites in Microsoft Front Page and can offer Front Page extensions where they are supported by your web host.

WHAT IS A WEB PAGE? - We think of a "page" as being an 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of paper, but a web page can be larger (longer). We allow up to 3 pages of text plus 2-3 graphics per page as our recommended limit. Why? Anything more slows down the loading time and most visitors will not wait around that long before giving up and clicking on another site - such as your competitor.

eCommerce

eCommerce is the ability to exchange funds over the Internet - to buy and to sell. There are several third-party sources for this such as PayPal (probably the most popular).

Search Engine Enhancement

How does your web site get seen? Most people use search engines such as Yahoo or Google to find the sites they seek. However, for your site to even get listed requires special HTML coding seen only by the search engines, not by the general reader. This coding contains "keywords" and descriptive phrases that allow the search engines to categorize your site and provide visitors with a brief summary.

Search engines now charge for "top" rankings, so it has become more difficult to design pages that will get ranked higher without paying extra. One way that determines your ranking is: how many other sites link to yours? In other words, site popularity. Thus, it becomes important to exchange links between sites - "You link to me and I'll link to you." Simplify this procedure with a variety of banner ads (below).

We work with you to help you compile a list of "keywords" and descriptions for each page of your site. There is no extra charge for this service.
