Any you do use should be small and compact. Buttons and divider bars (like the one below from Animation Central) are ideal subjects for animations. Lots of ads, such as the small ones you see on this page are animated GIF files.
With that said, here are some useful tips and free resources:
My personal favorite for small and well-done animations (like the cute little guy at the top of the page) is probably the Animation Factory. Animation Central also has a small, but decent selection of animated divider bars, as well as much more in other categories. Most of what you will find for free has an amateurish, cartoon look that is certainly not appropriate for a professional-looking business site.
Since animated GIFs (such as banners, bars and most rectangular animations) are just slight variations of the same image placed in sequence, it's not to hard to make your own with a program like PaintShop Pro, Ulead Express or Photoshop. There are many free shareware programs available with which you can make your own. Now, how? That's the subject of another story we may get to later.
You can do a lot with text without animating it. For more information, see "How to Use Text Tools for Your Website." | |||||||||||||
